– Market in Tavira – Mercado Municipal
Excellent place to buy fresh fruits, vegatables, fish and meat.
Market is open Monday to Saturday from about 8am to 1pm
The mercado municipal is the main market of Tavira and is an interesting alternative tourist attraction. The main draw of the market is the lively early morning fish market, this is where the fishing fleets’ fresh catch is sold to local traders and restaurants. Outside of the hectic early morning the market is a great place to fresh fruit and some specialist tourist gifts direct from producers.
All fruit and vegetables are local grown and are unbelievably cheap and tasty.
The market specializes in food and perishables goods.
The market is located on the eastern side of the town. The market is located on the Avenida Don Manuel I, this is the main road which crosses the river Rio Gilão on the easten side of the town. The market is a bland low-rise building with a massive market sign.
Shopping in Cabanas
In Cabanas the closest shop and the ATM are located in a distance aprox. 100m from apartment on the street Rua Dos Pescadores, the street is running along the front of a building.
From the apartment, on the street Rua Dos Pescadores, go to the right in the direction of the main road of the town. The shop is located on the junction.
This is mini-supermarket, in which are available all basic food products, vegetables and fruits and domestic detergents and cosmetics.
Shopping in Olhão
Olhão Minicipal Market – Mercado de Olhão
In the Olhão town (about 15km behind Tavira, the road N125 to Faro) is located another market with local fresh products.
There are two Municipal Markets: one for fish and seafood and another one for fruit and vegetables.
The markets are open daily, except Sundays from 8am till 1pm.
On Saturdays also the Farmers from the hills selling what they grow and it’s as fresh as can be.
Market is situated in the red brick buildings, on the main road along the coast. Location: Avenida 5 de Outubro, Olhão.
